Bursting on to the scene in 2018, Beth, Rory & Sam of Derbyshire DIY disco trio Patawawa have quickly gone from recording music on busted equipment in their bedrooms to selling out shows up & down the country, bringing their non-stop dance party to some of the UK’s best festivals whilst being tipped by press and radio DJs from across the globe.
Picked by NME as ‘Ones to Watch in 2018‘ before their debut EP had even been released, the Matlock band have more than lived up to that promise. Finding favour with the likes of BBC Radio DJs Huw Stephens, Tom Robinson and Lauren Laverne, the band have gone on to be tipped by the Line of Best Fit, The Guardian, DIY & Clash and saw their single ‘Patagonia’ spend 6 days atop the Hype Machine charts.
Whilst earning comparisons to a bewildering array of other artists from Chic to Madonna, Two Door Cinema Club to Foals, Beth, Rory and Sam took huge steps in 2018 defining their own sound and finished the year in Paris where, for all their prior success, they would record their first ever songs in a proper recording studio.
The result of those sessions, the acclaimed ‘Paris, London, New York, Matlock’ EP released in Spring 2019, showed that despite the recording studio upgrade the band have lost none of their DIY charm and boundless energy, a point proven night after sweaty night on the EP’s accompanying, sold out, tour.
Halfway through a busy summer festival season (that’s already seen them singled out by Metro as one of ‘2019’s rising festival stars’), the band are ready to release a new track ‘That Guy’, produced by Karma Kid. There’s never been a better time to get to know one of the UK’s most exciting new acts !
With extensive European dates next October and a 3rd full UK tour being booked for November, the band thought it’d be fun to organize these two special ‘Patawawa Presents’ club dates for ‘back to school’ time in September. They’ve asked a whole hosts of friends & kindred spirits to join in the fun, & in conjunction with their mates at the Leadmill in Sheffield & the CloseUp crew in London, they’ve put together a party-heavy line-up that promises to be anything but just another gig – expect the unexpected
